What we should learn from the election story…

Mahatma Gandhi had said, “We should be the change that we wish to see in the world.”

For all practical reasons, the recent elections remind me of this dictum. I am included in the lakhs and crores of people who had always criticised the Indian political system. We all constantly maintained that politics is but a shady and treacherous quicksand which is a no-place for educated people like us. What right then do we have of criticising the systems?

God helps those who help themselves...

Once, two frogs accidently fell into a tank full of hot milk. While they both tried hard to swim and come out of it, they could just not find a way out. One of the frogs told the other, “Listen brother, there is no use trying. I am very exhausted of swimming continuously. I think we should just give up! Our end has come… there is no way out!” Saying this, he stopped swimming and died. The other did not give up…

Moving out of our comfort zone…

It was more than three months ago. I had come to know that I will have to travel to South Korea for a project. I had not heard much about this country, except in context of the famous companies Samsung and Hyundai. So naturally I started exploring more about it. And some of the facts that I came to know had depressed me.

What we never say to our mothers...

My dearest mother,

I really don’t know why I am writing this letter to you; or what I want to tell you; or how I am going to tell you anything. Still, I feel like writing this. I will not be perfect in my language, I cannot be very expressive, because I am your little child who is still struggling in this big world; I am still that small innocent kid that you’ve been seeing for years. Only my height or weight has increased.

Or maybe I am wrong… maybe I have changed a lot…

That feeling called Happiness...

I was sitting against the seamless Pacific Ocean in Haeundae Beach, one of the most famous beaches of South Korea located in the coastal city of Busan.

There were hundreds of people around me. Men and women of mid-thirties cheering with their families, young couples in their early twenties having a merry time near the ocean, little children playing with conches and sand, some elderly  people sitting by and probably counting the last few days of their lives. It was just like any other beach I had visited – full of activity, smiling faces, the rustling sound of water and the cool sea breeze…

Yet, there was something different. I felt alone.

Almost five months ago, I had entered the office building with a totally nervous and excited look. It was my first day in the corporate world. I had a lot of apprehensions and a prejudice about the “big bad world” out there. People used to talk about cut-throat competition and that everything is about survival. I really did not know with whom I was to compete and why. I was totally clueless.

Top five things we must learn from Koreans

I am on my first trip out of India. Before I stepped out of my country, I had heard a lot about civilisations outside India. We always see beautiful landscapes, swanky terminals, posh roads and mesmerising skyscrapers. However, I am fortunate that I get to stay here for a period of three months. Because this period is long enough to see things that are much more important.
